Making Neopoints

HelpYourNeopet : Neopets Help : Making Neopoints

Neopoints are the basis of Neopian life. You use them to buy food, items for the battledome build a neohome run a shop and an endless list of other things. So every Neopian at some stage does something to try and earn neopoints. So here are some tips and things to remember and do to earn np.

1. Playing games
You're probably sick to death of being told to play games but seriously playing games is a great risk free way to earn np. Also, you'll find that you earn more np if you're playing a game that you enjoy. And after a while you'll see which games you are better at. Then you should focus on these games and hone your skills so that you earn even more np.

Some games I recommend are:

  • MeercaChase
  • Pteratack
  • Gadgadsgame (I'm good at Tetris)
  • Destructomatch (I'm good at Same)
  • Pyramid

As you see the games above are mostly the card games that come with your computer and not action and shooting games, it's different for everyone.

    2. Running a shop
Many people will tell you that running a shop is the biggest waste of time on Neopets. But this is very wrong. With a shop you can sell items that you have aquired to make yourself even more np. Meaning that you don't have to rely on your income from playing games. Infact it's a good idea to use some of the np you've earned playing games to stock up your shop.

The best items to stock are items that everyone needs and wants, in theory everyone needs toothpaste but in the Neopian reality they don't. The items that everyone needs are food items. Not many people can deal with the picture of a starving pet and they shouldn't either they should feed their pet.

Items that are few in number but highly sought after often have an inflated value because people are willing to pay more for them. For example you can but faeries from the Magic Shop, if you're really quick, for around 500np but because there are so few of them and everyone wants them they sell for over 3,000np on the Shopping Wizard. In the reverse everyone can get a Palm Fan for absolutely nothing by playing Tombola, there are quite literally millions of them in Neopia so no one will pay anything for them and if they do it's only 1np.

When stocking an item always check it's value on the Shopping Wizard and make sure you refresh a few times to get the average price. Then price yours similarly and it should sell. If it doesn't recheck the price, it may have decreased. If the price keeps decreasing price quite a bit lower, get rid of the item and take note not to buy it again. Learn from your mistakes you'll always buy an item that you can't get your money back for once in a while.

    3. Free stuff
You can get free things all over the Neopets site so capitalise on them. Get them, if you don't want them sell them and if they're not worth anything donate them to the Money Tree. Simple.

  • Tombola (items and np)
  • Snowager (items)
  • FruitMachine (items and np)
  • Healing Springs (healing and items)
  • Coltzan's Shrine (np, items and stats)
  • Giant Omelette (food item)
  • Turmaculus (np and petpet levels)

    4. Random events
There are good and bad random events. Some can turn one of your items into a pile of sludge others can raise your pets level, give you a free carrot or even a faerie, codestone or paint brush. To ensure that you keep getting random events and lots of them it's a good idea to donate 50 - 100np to the Money Tree every couple of days. Afterall it's not nice to be a hog.

    5. Auction house
The Auction House can be frustrating at times but it's worth persevering because you can get some great deals. Cruise around until you see something that you like that's going for a reasonable price. Place a bid or if it's near the end of the auction check back near the end and try and place that winning bid in the last few seconds.

Remember: Never bid more than the item is worth.

    6. Trading post
You can often snatch up a good deal here by refreshing the newest addition section. If you see something you want READ THE WISHLIST and make an offer of about what the person wants. If they're trading a Faerie Paint Brush DO NOT bid a Palm Fan and 10np. People who do that are despised. If they say "Bid what it's worth" they mean look at the Shopping Wizard and bid something or np equivalent to the selling price.

    7. New release items / High demand items / Retiered items
Hanging around in shops and snapping up items that are just released and selling them for highly inflated prices before anyone knows what they are really worth is a gamble. But sometimes it is worth it and sometimes you just loose np. So be careful with this tactic.

Items that are in high demand such as faeries are always a good item to deal in. Everyone wants them but there aren't a lot around so the price is always good. You just have to be fast enough to get one.

Retiered items are quite a bit harder. Basically if you notice that an item as been retiered buy one or two and hang onto it for when the price goes up, probably to unbuyable status and then cash in!

Make sure that you understand that becoming rich and earning lots of np is a little itsy bit more than just following this list. It also involves a lot of time. Time is the key. You cannot combine all of these things into 5 minutes. Although in a rush I have been known to do most of these things minus the Trading Post and Auction House in around 45 minutes but I usually play for 2 hours.

Then of course once you've earnt your np you have to work quite hard to keep it all.

    8. National neopian bank
The bank is a place where you can keep your np. Keeping it here means that ghosts and other evil random events cannot steal it. However, after playing Neopets for over a year I realised that since interest is no longer given to you automatically you earn far more np by taking your np out of the back and buying items to sell in your shop with it. With every bank account comes a Safety Deposit Box.

    9. Safety deposit box Keeping items in here will save them from the Pant Devil and other evil denizens of Neopia. So it's a good things to do because there's nothing worse than having the Pant Devil appear and steal your Rod of Ultranova or other expensive item!
